It takes for James Robertson eight hours and 46 miles to get to and from his work at an engineering firm every day. Of those 46 miles, he walks 21. His situation inspired a student at Detroit’s Wayne State University, Evan Leedy, to create a fund to help James to buy a car. The fund has raised over $300,000 so far.
Meet James, who, in 13 years, has never missed a single day of work.
James is unable to afford a car because he works for just $10 an hour, and only gets over four hours of sleep every night. What keeps him going? His dedication to his work. As bus services don’t cover most of his rute, he has to walk through dangerous areas along 8 Mile and prays that he arrives home safe each night.
Evan and James together
Thanks to Evan, James has been inundated with several offers of free cars from people and companies. Watch the video to see how his story ends.
